4:00 pm - 4:45 pm General Session - Innovating for Success
Moderator: Larry Walsh, Editor, VARBusiness Magazine
Innovation is a simple way of saying advancing the state of the art in technology. Behind the scenes, vendor researchers and developers toil to deliver innovative products and technologies that solution providers can use to develop new solutions that satisfy their customers' needs. In this panel discussion moderated by VARBusiness editor Lawrence M. Walsh, finalists for the VARBusiness Technologist of the Year award will discuss the process for innovating and improving their products, the lifecycle of product development and the channel partners play in process.

5:00 pm - 5:45 pm 2 Concurrent Sessions
(1)Taking a Risk on Emerging Vendors
Moderated by Chris Gonsalves, VARBusiness executive editor and Shelly Solheim, VARBusiness Senior Editor
Entrepreneurial and emerging vendors are often the source of truly innovative technology. They're often targeting technology niches and holes overlooked by their large, established vendor counter parts. While their products are often attractive to solution providers, adopting an emerging vendor comes with risks. They don't have track records for support and success, brand recognition or the financial security to ensure they'll be around for the long haul. And, they're also frequent acquisition targets. Knowing when and how to take a risk on small innovative vendors is challenging for solution providers. In this town hall discussion solution providers will discuss their experiences with small vendors and strategies for engagement.

(2) The Price of Innovation
Moderated by Jeff O'Heir, Deputy News Editor, CRN
Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM, or so the saying goes. But if solution providers fail to adopt new technologies at the right time they'll lose their competitive edge. During this session, solution providers will describe what "innovative" technologies actually mean to to their businesses and how they ultimately profit from them. You'll hear tales of horror and heroics as our esteemed panelists share how they define, choose, market and sell today's innovations without getting burned. Join us in the discussion.

1:45 pm - 2:30 pm General Session - Innovation: The Winning Formula
Moderators: Larry Walsh, Editor, VARBusiness & Christina McEachern, Managing Editor, VARBusiness
The Stanley steam-powered car, the Betamax video player and the Segway human transporter were all innovative ideas, but failed tremendously in the commercial market. The technology market is littered with such failures: Microsoft's Bob interface, 3Com's Audrey Web-surfing device, the Apple Newton PDA, Intel's Itanium chip, and more. In this panel discussion with the winners of the VARBusiness Tech Innovator awards, VARBusiness editor Lawrence M. Walsh and associate managing editor Cristina McEachern probe how vendors push the technology envelope, develop new, channel-ready products that won't become the next Edsel of the tech industry.
